Film & Fashion Gala Evening
Crystal Cruise’s run a range of high-end world tours with destinations changing on a yearly basis, which provided a stop over in Wellington for the 2006 cruise. At each of the destinations there are a selection of activities and excursions. Two cities are chosen anually to host a special night and Event Management was chosen to organise this event for the visiting passengers to Wellington, NZ.
Wellington or Wellywood as it is now known provided the perfect place to host some form of celebration of the film industry. Chameleon's expertise in event management coupled with our close relationship to Weta Workshop proved to be a perfect match in ensuring this was an unforgetabble evening for all involved.
A video clip of this event is available on our Media Showcase page.
Wellington's iconic Embassy Theatre was chosen as the venue for the night. The auditorium was transformed into an elaborate reception area, and in true Chameleon style the extravagance did not end there.
Wanting to create an atmosphere of a full ‘Red Carpet’ experience for the cruise ship guests, a crowd was hired to act as frenzied fans on the arrival of the guests. With the red carpet leading up to the front doors, movie cars from the “King Kong” and a screaming crowd armed with pens, cameras and signs, what more could the expectant guests want as they arrived by the coach load.
The interior of the foyer areas was transformed into a display of props & memorabilia highlighting the movies that have been filmed here in New Zealand. The wonderful team from World of WearableArt provided a selection of award winning costumes from their magnificent collection based in Nelson. These garments are a piece of art in their own right and instantly provided even more eye-candy for the already delighted guests. With plentiful nibbles and bubbles the guests then made their way into the main theatre.
With a full audio visual presentation an introduction to the New Zealand film industry, the night was opened with a montage of imagery of the largest to the smallest films made in New Zealand. Weta Digital also provided a short documentary on the technology behind the creation of the digital worlds for The Lord of The Rings and King Kong movies. To make sure there was no lack of excitement in the audience, the stunt team co-ordinated a full action-fight scene across the width of the auditorium!
A standing ovation closed the event with the guest departing back to their cruise ship after an unforgetable night. Once again Event Management made sure the result exceeded everyone's expectations, and look forward to Crystal Cruises return in the next few years to come.
“This was a unique one-in-a-lifetime ‘world class’ event which will surely be remembered as one of the highlight of 2006 World Cruise for the guests that were fortunate enough to experience it … It was a memorable event that exceeded our every expectation and was an overwhelming success with our guests … Congratulations on a fantastic event!”
